All About Me

Dear Parents and Students,

Welcome to second grade!  I am so excited to begin this very exciting year with all of you!  I would like to begin by telling you a bit about myself.  I am entering my 20th year of teaching here at Kenston.  I have had the wonderful opportunity to teach third grade for 12 years, and I am now entering my 8th year in second grade. This summer I have been very busy with my grandkids.  I am married to a wonderful man named Jim and we have 3 children.  Kenneth is our oldest.  He is married to Karesha, and they have 6 children (Saybri 19, Kyla 17, Xander 15, Sophia 13, Izaak 10, and Kolt 7).  Next is Lindsay.  She is married to Eric, and they have 2 children (John 5 and Reid 3).  Finally, there is Cory.  He is married to Catherine, and they have 2 children (Cayleigh 6 and Cole 3).  I have also spent a great deal of time in our classroom moving things around and working hard to make it comfortable for all of us.  With all of the changes that the state continues to make, our second grade team has spent many hours working to redevelop our Math and ELA curriculum.  .  Most of all, I am so excited to spend this year working with all of you!

Over the next few weeks it would be beneficial to do a few things to make sure your child comes in ready for second grade.  Please take the time to have your child read out loud to an adult, for at least 20 minutes every day.  Then take a few minutes to discuss what they are reading.  Having your child write in a journal each day or having them write 3-4 sentences on a topic each day will ensure that they are prepared for the written aspect of the year.  You can even have your child send me a letter telling me about their summer or what they would like to learn about in second grade.  I have placed the school’s address at the bottom of this letter.  We will be focusing a great deal on fact fluency in mathematics this year.  Please take the time to practice addition and subtraction facts, as well as missing addends (___ + 3=9), and missing subtrahends (___ – 6=3).

If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me by calling the school at 440-543-9380 or emailing me at linda.nutter@kenstonapps.org.    Have fun and stay safe!

Sincerely,

Mrs.  Linda Nutter
